Cerritos Beach is worth visiting year-round — the climate is warm, the Pacific is always there, and the beach doesn't have a bad season in the way that more weather-dependent destinations do. But the experience shifts meaningfully depending on when you go, and the "best" time depends entirely on what you're after.
Here's an honest month-by-month breakdown.
Low Season: May through October
This is Baja's summer — hot, sunny, and quieter than the winter months. Daytime temperatures sit between 85–95°F (30–35°C), the water warms up to around 75°F (24°C), and the Pacific swell is at its most consistent, making it the best season for surfing.
The tradeoff is humidity, which increases through July and August, and the occasional tropical storm (hurricane season runs June through October, though direct hits on the Cerritos area are rare). The upside is everything costs less — accommodation rates drop, the beach has more space, and the town of Todos Santos nearby feels like itself rather than a tourist destination.
Best for: surfers, budget-conscious travelers, anyone who prefers space over scene.
High Season: November through April
This is when Baja California Sur is at its most social. Temperatures cool to a very comfortable 75–85°F (24–30°C), the humidity drops, and the Pacific calms down into cleaner, smaller surf. The region fills with visitors from the US and Canada escaping winter, and the restaurants and beach scene in Todos Santos come alive.
November through April is also the best window for wildlife: grey whales and humpbacks migrate along the coast from January through March and are frequently visible from shore at Cerritos. Whale shark season in nearby La Paz (about 75 minutes away) runs October through April. Horseback riding and fishing are particularly good in the cooler months.
Best for: first-time visitors, couples, families, wildlife enthusiasts, anyone who wants the full social Baja experience.
Christmas and New Year: December 20 through January 7
The peak of peak season. The beach is lively, the surf is typically small and clean, and the whole stretch of coast between Cerritos and Todos Santos has a festive energy. Sunsets in late December are exceptional — the light hits the Sierra de la Laguna mountains behind the property in a way that's hard to describe without sounding like a travel brochure.
